Dr. Folabora Bryhm Congratulates Professor Olu Obafemi on His Appointment as Professor Emeritus

With immense joy and deep admiration, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Professor Olu Obafemi (FNAL, NNMA), the Asiwaju of Kiri Kingdom and the longest-serving Grand Patron of the Bunu Students’ Union, on his well-deserved appointment as Professor Emeritus by the Senate of the University of Ilorin.

This prestigious honor is a testament to Professor Obafemi’s lifelong dedication to academia, his outstanding contributions to English and Dramatic Literature, and his profound influence on Nigeria’s intellectual and literary landscape. His appointment is not just a recognition of his academic excellence but also of his enduring impact in shaping generations of scholars, writers, and critical thinkers.

Since joining the University of Ilorin as a Professor in October 1990, Professor Obafemi has demonstrated unwavering commitment to scholarship and mentorship. His distinguished career has been marked by groundbreaking research, literary excellence, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge that continues to inspire both students and colleagues alike.

As a Fellow and former President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL), Professor Obafemi has played a pivotal role in advancing Nigerian literature and academia. His contributions as a poet, playwright, and author have cemented his place among the nation’s most revered intellectuals. His scholarship not only enriches the humanities but also strengthens the cultural fabric of our society.

Beyond academia, Professor Obafemi’s leadership extends into national service. He has served as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), and currently holds the same esteemed role at Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara (CUSTECH), Kogi State. His vision and commitment to educational excellence have left a lasting imprint on these institutions.

Notably, Professor Obafemi was the 76th recipient of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) Award in 2018—the highest professional honor bestowed upon Nigerians for distinguished contributions to knowledge and national development. This recognition further underscores his invaluable role in shaping Nigeria’s academic and cultural heritage.

On behalf of the Dr. Folabora Bryhm Foundation and the entire community of Bunuland, I once again extend my warmest congratulations to Professor Olu Obafemi on this remarkable milestone. His appointment as Professor Emeritus is a fitting tribute to a lifetime of scholarly excellence and service.

May this new chapter be filled with continued success, good health, and fulfillment, and may his legacy inspire future generations to strive for greatness.
